2019 Holly Heights Road Re-Sealing Project Report
by Walt Kasnter-August 21, 2019

Edited version-Key points

  •  The 2019 Holly Heights re-sealing project occurred during the period of August 14-16.
  •  The work was done by Tony’s Striping and Seal Coating, 1080 Hickory Hill Road, Tillamook (503) 812-7379
  •  The contractor’s crew did an excellent job to make sure the seal coating was evenly applied.
  •  Part of the work, on the banks, was done by hand because machines do not do satisfactory work when angled.
  •  The next re-seal project would be scheduled in summer 2024.
  •  One side of the road was done on Wednesday and the other on Thursday.
  •  The application needs 24 hours to set before vehicles should be allowed to drive on the new material.
  •  The lead contractor says you can walk on it as soon as it looks dry.
  •  Walt allowed some cars to park in his driveway during the “drying” period.
  •  The contractor, Tony, told Walt that he would fix any cracks that develop or diesel spills occur. Diesel will damage the seal coat.

Walt stated: “Other than the one incident of lack of cooperation by a renter, I think the project went very well, especially considering that the contractor had an opening due to a cancellation that we were able to take advantage of on short notice. The timing of the job was great and we got a high quality job at a reasonable price.”

He continued: “When the road is due for re-sealing again in 2024, we should try to schedule far enough in advance so everyone can plan accordingly. It seems like right after July 4th and before mid-August is a good time to treat the road. After mid-August leaves begin to fall and can become incorporated into the seal coat.”
